For fans of the good shit, Gram Parsons, Uncle Tupelo, Porter Wagoner, Jay Farrar
Taking the Long Way Home is a the gentle,
rollicking new album from Guelph singer-songwriter Richard Laviolette of
traditional music full of nostalgia about growing up and ruminations on growing
old. Laviolettez is one of those singer/songwriters who
soothes the soul using a voice that can swing from a delicate whisper to a
guttural bark in the same breath. He has released material under a variety of
band names, including Mary Carl, Richard Laviolette and His Black Lungs, Richard
Laviolette and the Oil Spills, Richard Laviolette and the Hollow Hooves and Richard
Laviolette and the Glitter Bombs.
The record is a family photo album of time-worn images from Laviolette’s life reveal treasured memories of his childhood home (“Grey Rain”), tribute the strong women in the family ("My Grandma's More Punk (Than Most Punks I Know)"), and contemplate one’s mortality ("Someone to Tell My Story When I'm Gone"). Like a photo album perusal, Laviolette’s The Long Way Home leaves heart-warmth and comfort accompanied with memories of lessons learned in honest wise words of a worthy songwriter.
PACKAGED RIGHT
* I package each record like I am sending it to myself. I hate bent corners and seam splits. That’s why I take the time to package each record and prepare the mailer for potential issues during transit.
* All records come in new vinyl mailer boxes and packaged using bubble wrap and poly sleeves. (Sometimes I'll recycle by using an overlapping flap mailer often used by the big boy labels or a vinyl club.)
* MOST IMPORTANTLY, I use extra cardboard “planks” applied to each corner around the edge to prevent damage when tossed around en route to you.
